Prior to starring on The Big Bang Theory, Helberg starred in Aaron's Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which took place behind the scenes of a live sketch comedy show and starred Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford. Helberg was part of an ensemble cast including Amanda Peet, Sarah Paulson and Steven Weber whose characters were all involved in the production of the late-night comedy show. The series was critically acclaimed and named Best Overall New Program in a poll conducted by Broadcasting and Cable, but low ratings reduced the series to one season which garnered a cult fan following.

Helberg has guest-starred on several comedy shows including fan favorites Arrested Development and Reno 911. He was also a regular on season eight of the sketch comedy show MADtv.

On the big screen, Helberg recently starred in the independent film, I Am I, written and produced by Jocelyn Towne, about a young woman who meets the father she never knew at her mother’s funeral. He has appeared in the Academy Award® nominated films A Serious Man from the Coen Brothers, and George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck. His other feature film credits include Old School, For Your Consideration and Judd Apatow's Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Online, he also played the role of Moist in the Internet cult sensation Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

Helberg attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts where he trained at The Atlantic Theater Company and is an accomplished pianist. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he currently resides with his wife and daughter.
