Robert E. Short was a production executive for Procter & Gamble for thirty-four years. He helped guide shows including The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Rifleman into development, as well as the daytime dramas Search for Tomorrow and Another World.

While Short was with P&G, the company became one of the largest suppliers of daytime programming, which also included the shows Guiding Light, As the World Turns and Edge of Night.

Short also contributed to the series From These Roots, The Rebel, Car 54, Where Are You?, Somerset and Texas. He was credited on 158 episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show, 168 episodes of The Rifleman and 266 episodes of The Edge of Night.

Short served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps Photographic Service during World War II. He graduated from Cornell University in 1949 and joined Procter & Gamble Productions shortly thereafter.

Short’s grandson is producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

He died July 25, 2016, in Sarasota, Florida. He was 95.
