Born in Brooklyn, Rubin graduated from New York University and got his start in the late 1940s in the early days of live television. His early credits included Studio One in Hollywood, Tales of Tomorrow and Climax!
In the years that followed, his other TV series included The Defenders, Perry Mason, The FBI, Mannix, Ironside, Harry O, The Rookies, Baretta, Starsky and Hutch, Barnaby Jones, The Rockford Files, Dynasty, Knots Landing and The Paper Chase.
His feature film credits included The Best of Everything, The First Deadly Sin, An American Dream, Brainstorm, Walk a Tightrope and The Human Shield.
Rubin also taught screenwriting at the University of Southern California.
He died October 12, 2013, at age 86.
