Mac Davis was an American singer-songwriter and film and television actor.

After attending Emory University, Davis worked in sales and promotions for a number of record companies before joining Nancy Sinatra's Boots Enterprises in Los Angeles, writing songs for her and performing in her stage shows.

He would go on to be a crossover success in country music and pop, perhaps best known for his No. 1 hit "Baby, Don't Get Hooked on Me," for penning the Elvis Presley song "A Little Less Conversation," and for starring in the film North Dallas Forty (1979).

For three seasons on NBC, Davis hosted his own variety program, The Mac Davis Show.

He also lent his voice to the animated series Oswald, Johnny Bravo, and King of the Hill.

Davis died September 29, 2020, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 78.
