Johnson currently stars opposite Zooey Deschanel on FOX’s hit comedy series New Girl, as Nick Miller, a perennial ‘slacker’ and grumpy guy who dropped out of law school and supports himself by working as a bartender. The Golden Globe® nominated show tells the story of a bubbly twenty-something woman who moves in with three young guys after breaking up with her boyfriend. Johnson was recently nominated for a 2013 Television Critics Association Award in the category of Individual Achievement in Comedy.

Johnson will next be seen on the big screen in Joe Swanberg’s independent film Drinking Buddies in which he stars opposite Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston. The relationship comedy centers on a pair of Chicago craft brewery co-workers whose platonic friendship veers towards flirtation. Drinking Buddies received great reviews at SXSW and was acquired by Magnolia Pictures for North American distribution. The film will be released on August 23, 2013. Johnson also appeared in Jenee LaMarque’s independent film, The Pretty One, alongside Zoe Kazan which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 20, 2013.

In addition, Johnson is currently in production on Luke Greenfield’s Let’s Be Cops for Fox, in which he will star alongside Damon Wayans, Jr. The film follows the two friends who impersonate cops for kicks, but when they unknowingly mess with a mobster, the game gets real.

Johnson most recently co-starred alongside Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street. He also starred opposite Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass in Colin Trevorrow‘s film Safety Not Guaranteed, which premiered to rave reviews at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and SXSW.

Johnson’s other film credits include starring opposite Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman in Paramount’s No Strings Attached directed by Ivan Reitman, as well as the independent film, Ceremony, opposite Uma Thurman and Michael Angarano.

In 2009, Johnson starred in Nick Jasenovic’s Paper Heart with Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera. The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at that year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Johnson graduated from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and has worked extensively in the entertainment industry as both an actor and writer. As an actor, Johnson has worked with David Mamet, Larry David, Bob Odenkirk, John Landis, Ivan Reitman, Nick Stoller, and Adam McKay.

Born in Chicago, Johnson currently resides in Los Angeles.
