Gabriele Ferzetti was an Italian actor best known for his role as the playboy Sandro in Michelangelo Antonioni’s L’Avventura. The 1960 film followed the story of a woman who disappears during a Mediterranean boating trip, and the subsequent search by her best friend and lover.

The performer appeared in more than 160 film and television productions, over a career spanning seven decades. He also appeared in Antonioni’s film Girlfriends, as well as the features The Provencial, To Each His Own, The Bible, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Night Porter, and the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Ferzetti, who began acting in the 1940s, also appeared in some television roles that aired in the U.S., such as the series I Spy, starring Robert Culp and Bill Cosby. Additionally, Ferzetti appeared in the television movies Voyage of Terror: The Achille Lauro Affair; The Scarlet and the Black; Divorce His — Divorce Hers, with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor; and the miniseries Around the World in 80 Days, starring Pierce Brosnan.
