An English major at Western Kentucky University, Schramm moved to New York City on a graduate scholarship to Juilliard's drama school.
Perhaps best known for his role as Roy Biggins, a rival airline owner, on the television series Wings, Schramm would appear in all 172 episodes of that show.

He guest starred in a number of television series such as Working Girl, Max Monroe, Jake and the Fatman, Wiseguy, Miami Vice, The Equalizer, Spenser: For Hire, Another World, and the mini-series Kennedy.
Schramm’s big screen appearances include Let It Ride (1989), Johnny Handsome (1989), A Shock to the System (1990), and The Time of Your Life (1976).
Schramm died March 28, 2020, in New York, New York. He was 73.
