Phyllis George was an American television host and sportscaster.

A former Miss America, her television career was launched as the co-emcee of Candid Camera, but she is perhaps best known as one of the first women to have a prominent sports reporting role on national television on the CBS pregame show, The NFL Today, from 1975 to 1983.

A former Miss America, her television career was launched as the co-emcee of Candid Camera, but she is perhaps best known as one of the first women to have a prominent sports reporting role on national television on the CBS pregame show, The NFL Today, from 1975 to 1983.

George would return to hosting with the entertainment program People, as well as co-anchoring the CBS Morning News, interviewing prominent figures such as Nancy Reagan and Fred Astaire.

She was also a guest star on programs such as I’ve Got a Secret, The Hollywood Squares, The $10,000 Pyramid, The Merv Griffin Show, The Muppet Show, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

George died May 14, 2020, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was 70.
