Hal Sutherland was an animation director who was best known for his work with Filmation Studios, the production company he established with producers Lou Scheimer and Norm Prescott in 1963.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he began his career as a Disney animator with a job on the animated feature Sleeping Beauty.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he began his career as a Disney animator with a job on the animated feature Sleeping Beauty.

In its heyday, Filmation was a major supplier of Saturday-morning cartoons, including Star Trek: The Animated Series, The Adventures of Batman, The Batman/Superman Hour, Aquaman, The Archie Show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure and The New Adventures of Flash Gordon.

Sutherland directed more than 30 shows. In addition to those listed above, they included Archie's Fun House, The Brady KidsThe ABC Saturday Superstar Movie, The Fat Albert Christmas Special and Mission: Magic!

Sutherland died January 16, 2014. He was 85.
