Warner Bros. Casting Executive Barbara Miller Dies
Academy member and Emmy winner Barbara Miller has died. Miller was a veteran casting executive at Warner Bros. television, and was instrumental in launching a number of hit television series.
She assembled the casts for popular series such as Murphy Brown, The West Wing, ER, The Drew Carey Show, as well as dozens of television movies. She was known for choosing George Clooney as Dr. Doug Ross on ER, and Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing on Friends.
During her career, Miller received ten Emmy nominations, including two this year for her work on Friends and The West Wing. She has been awarded four Emmys, three for her work on ER and one in 2001 for The West Wing.
Miller began her career at Warner Bros. in 1971 as an assistant in the casting department. Soon after, she became a casting director at CBS. She went on to become vice president of casting at Lorimar Television, which later merged with Warner Bros. television.
