Television Academy Reps Nab Noms Three Governors, One Officer Honored

North Hollywood, CA – Among the many nominees for Primetime Emmys announced this morning were three members of the Television Academy’s Board of Governors and one member of its Executive Committee.

• Art director John Shaffner, who serves as the Academy’s vice chair, received two nominations for Outstanding Art Direction for a Multi-Camera Series. Shaffner and set decorator Judi Giovanni were acknowledged for their work on ABC’s The George Lopez Show, and he and set decorator Ann Shea were saluted for their work on the CBS series Two and a Half Men.

Other nominees in this category included production designer Garvin Eddy and set decorator Tara Stephenson for the Fox sitcom That ‘70s Show and production designer Glenda Rovello and set decorator Melinda Ritz for NBC’s Will & Grace.

• Music Peer Group governor Ian Fraser was nominated for Outstanding Music Direction for the production Christmas in Washington, on which he served as music director.

Also nominated in this category were Matthias Gohl, music supervisor, arranger and producer of PBS’s Broadway: The American Musical; Michael Kosarin, who produced the music and adapted the underscore for the Hallmark Entertainment/NBC broadcast of A Christmas Carol; Rickey Minor, Music Director of CBS’s Genius: A Night For Ray Charles; and Rachel Portman, who wrote the music for PBS’s Great Performances production of The Little Prince.

• Eileen Horta, a governor in the Sound Editors Peer Group, and the group of sound professionals who worked on the HBO movie Warm Springs were nominated in the category of Outstanding Sound Editing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special. Horta’s Warm Springs colleagues supervising sound editor Richard Taylor; sound editors David Beadle, Jane Boegle, Russ DeWolf, Andrew Ellerd, Juanita Diana, Sonya Henry, Patrick Hogan, Jason Lazama, Stuart Martin, Todd Murakami, Brian Thomas Nist and Robert Ramirez; music editor Ed Kalnins, and Foley artists Jim Bailey and John Benson.

Teams from three other longform projects will also be vying this sound editing award. From TNT’s The Grid, the nominees are supervising sound editor Mark Friedgen; ADR editor Devon Curry; sound editors Joy Ealy, Bob Costanza, Mike Dickeson, Gary Macheel, Mark Steele, Anton Holden and Charlie Kolander; music editor Tom Trafalski; and Foley artists Tim Chilton, and Jill Sanders. The group from the NBC/Hallmark production Hercules consists of sound supervisor Mark Freidgen; ADR editor Joy Ealy; sound effects editors Mike Dickeson, Gary Macheel and Robert Costanza; dialogue editor Anton Holden; music editor Allan K. Rosen; and Foley artists Tim Chilton and Jill Sanders. For HBO’s The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, the honorees are supervising sound editor Tim Hands; sound effects editor Geoff Rubay; sound editor James Mather; dialogue and ADR editors Victoria Brazier and Zack Davis; dialogue editor Laura Lovejoy; ADR editor Anna MacKenzie; and Foley artists Felicity Cottrell and Ruth Sullivan. Finally, for ESPN’s 3, the singled-out sound editing team members are supervisor Mark Friedgen, ADR editor Joy Ealy; editors Anton Holden, Tim Terusa, Charlie Kolander, Mike Dickeson, Bob Costanza, Gary Macheel, Adrian Marfia and Rick Steele; and Foley artists Tim Chilton and Jill Sanders.

• Kathryn Joosten, a governor in the Performers Peer Group, was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Mrs. McClusky on the ABC series Desperate Housewives.

Joining Joosten as nominees were fellow Desperate Housewives guest star Lupe Ontiveros; Georia Engel, who appeared in CBS’s Everybody Loves Raymond; Cloris Leachman for Fox’s Malcolm in the Middle; and Blythe Danner for NBC’s Will & Grace.

• Finally, in the category of Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series, director of photography Lowell Peterson, ASC, a governor in the Cinematographers Peer Group, was nominated for his work on HBO’s Six Feet Under.

The category’s other nominees were Jim Denault for the HBO drama Carnivale; Jeffrey Jur, ASC, also for Carnivale; James Glennon, ASC for HBO’s Deadwood; and Rodney Charters, ASC/CSC for his work on the Fox series 24.
