Susan Brownstein, a talent clearance supervisor who worked extensively in television, died September 20, 2012, in Los Angeles after a long illness. She was 64.
Brownstein began her career in 1975 as an NBC page and later worked as a personal assistant to Cher, Barry Manilow, Carrie Fisher, Tatum O’Neal, Jerry Belson and the rock band Blue Cheer.
She later shifted focus to the task of clearing talent for features films and television.
Her recent credits included the Academy Awards and ABC’s retrospective specials for Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy.
She also worked for NBC on such series as Heroes and the ER series finale, and for CBS, she cleared Grammy’s Greatest Moments and DVD bonus material for The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason and The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Brownstein’s feature film credits include last year’s Disney documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, executive producer of PBS’ My Music specials; her son Aaron, who is on the production staff of NBC’s Parenthood; her mother; and a brother.
