Anne Diamond Brownstone, TV, Radio and Stage Actress

Brownstone worked on numerous radio shows as well as such television series as Dragnet and The Nurses.

Anne Diamond Brownstone, an actress whose career included stage, radio and television, died of natural causes January 29, 2011, at her New York City apartment. She was 87.

A prolific performer in the heyday of scripted radio programming, Brownstone starred in such radio shows as Dragnet, Burns and Allen, Tarzan, This Is Your FBI, Fibber McGee and Molly, Dr. Kildare and Texas Rangers. Her leading men included John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart.

In addition, Brownstone starred in numerous productions at the Pasadena Playhouse and with Michael Chekhov’s professional workshop in Hollywood.

Her various television appearances included such series as Space Patrol, The Nurses, Dragnet and Tombstone Territory.

In 1960, she married fellow actor and director Joseph Brownstone, who was company manager for impresario Sol Hurok. The family, which included three children, toured with him together with the Royal Ballet and other internationally renowned troupes.

Together they also toured in the first Disney on Parade until Joseph Brownstone’s death in 1970.

Following the birth of her children, Brownstone took a break from performing and worked for the Actors’ Equity Association from 1974 to 1989. The organization’s council later granted her lifetime membership for her commitment to actors and the union.

In 1992, she returned to the stage to tour in Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers and Moon Over Buffalo at American Stage Festival.

She is survived by a daughter, two sons and three grandchildren.
