Me and My Emmy: Dawn Lunsford
The sound editor and Foley artist finds joy in creative collaboration and performing live to picture.
Emmy Tally: One
How She Got the Gold: For outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (half-hour) and animation in 2021, as a Foley artist on Love Death + Robots.
Now for the Noms: Lunsford has been nominated four times: for Daredevil in 2015, When They See Us in 2019, and for Love Death + Robots in 2019 and 2021.
Imagine That: "My Emmy statuette inspires me by reminding me that magical surprises can show up at any time."
Bound for Sound: "When I was a teenager, I saw a documentary on the making of Star Wars. Watching the sound designers create the stormtroopers' sounds and gear by making field recordings changed my life. I knew right then and there that I wanted to make sounds for movies. I was already a musician, so it all made perfect sense to me."
Lights, Mic, Action: "The best part of my job is the creative collaboration. I also really enjoy the 'performance' aspect of the red light going on and performing live to picture. I never get bored or feel like I've learned all there is to know."
Fun with Fallon: "Once when I was working on the movie Fever Pitch, Jimmy Fallon wandered onto the Foley stage to see what we were up to. We showed him how we walked his footsteps and offered that he try. He said it's a lot harder than it looks! We got a real kick out of watching an actor try to Foley himself."
