Larry Elikann, 80; TV Director

Academy member and television director Larry Elikann, who earned an Emmy nomination for the television movie I Know My First Name is Steven, has died at age 80.
The television veteran earned Peabody, Golden Globe, Humanitas and Christopher awards during his long career. He created dramatizations of true stories for the television networks, including A Mother's Prayer for USA and Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills for CBS. He also directed episodes of several popular and long-running series, including Barnaby Jones, Dallas, Knot's Landing, Falcon Crest, and Hill Street Blues.

Elikann was born in New York City, and earned degrees at Brooklyn College (now part of the City University of New York) and Walter Harvey College. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the Army Signal Corps. He began his television career as a technical director for NBC, and then made the transition to directing commercials and television programs.
