Horvitz to Direct Primetime Emmys

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the recipients of the 2004 Primetime Emmy Engineering Awards. Recipients will receive their awards during the Primetime Creative Arts ceremony on Sunday, September 12th at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Three-time Emmy Award winner and ten time nominee, Louis J. Horvitz will return for his eleventh year as Director of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ 56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, it was announced today by Don Mischer, executive producer of the telecast. The 56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will broadcast Sunday, September 19 on ABC.

"Lou and I have formed a great relationship through our many years of collaboration on the Emmy Awards telecast that translates on screen for an entertaining and flawless show," said Mischer. "Lou is so incredibly talented and experienced at directing live events, and he continues to bring fresh ideas to the table, that I have no doubt he will help make the 56th Annual Primetime Emmys a memorable evening."

Horvitz recently completed his eighth year as director of The 75th Annual Academy Awards and his 13th year at the helm of The People’s Choice Awards. Also in 2004, he directed The Sanremo Italy Music Festival, VH1’s DIVAS, The Kids Choice Awards, The Daytime Emmy Awards and Macy’s July 4th Spectacular. Currently he is shooting The Bad Boys of Comedy, a film series for Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, prepping MTV’s VMA Awards and putting the finishing touches on Music 101: The Green Room, for theatrical release.

In a career that has spanned more than two decades, Horvitz has helmed numerous other high-profile programs including The Kennedy Center Honors, An Evening of Stars, The American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award, Lifetime’s Achievement Awards: Women Changing the World, VH1’s Divas Duets, The 2003 MTV Movie Awards, The VH-1 Concert For New York City benefiting survivors of 9/11, the U2 Half Time at the Superbowl, Live Aid, Paul Simon In Central Park, The Rolling Stones Steel Wheels Tour, The Judds’ Farewell Concert, ABC’s In Concert series, Paramount’s Solid Gold Series and Norman Lear’s cult classic, Fernwood Tonight.
