Academy and BAFTA/LA to Co-host Tea Party Honoring Emmy Nominees

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles (BAFTA/LA) will join the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in co-hosting the first annual Tea Party on Emmy weekend. The Tea Party is set for Saturday, September 20 at The St. Regis Hotel in Century City from 3:00 - 5:00 PM.

In the tradition of the BAFTA/LA Tea Party held annually in January honoring film, BAFTA/LA and the Academy will celebrate 2002-2003 Emmy nominees on the Saturday prior to the Emmy Awards. In addition, anticipated attendees will also include past Emmy winners and nominees from the United Kingdom and former Commonwealth countries, such as Helen Mirren and Helena Bonham Carter.

"We're passing on our usual lattes and frappuccinos to take tea with our creative friends from around the Commonwealth," said Academy Chairman Bryce Zabel. "Television increasingly passes through all national boundaries and this is a good chance to focus on excellence wherever it originates,"
"Having been a member of BAFTA/LA for many years and having had many business dealings with the British film and television industries, it gives me great pleasure to see this year's nominees celebrated with this new event," said Academy President Todd Leavitt.

BAFTA/LA's annual Tea Party celebrating the achievement of motion pictures has long been one of the town's most popular pre-awards events, attracting top industry leaders, awards nominees, and stage and screen celebrities from all over the world.

BAFTA/LA is a professional, independent, non-profit organization founded in 1987, whose members represent all aspects of the entertainment industry. As the only Anglo-American professional organization founded to promote and advance excellence in film, television and interactive media, BAFTA/LA serves as a bridge between the Hollywood and British entertainment communities, and is a vital link with BAFTA in London.
