LA Area Emmys Announces Nominees

Dick Askin, Chairman and CEO of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, today announced 118 nominations in 29 categories and 9 juried award winners in 4 categories for the 56th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards.

The 56th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards presentation will be held on August 28, 2004 at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.

Also to be presented will be the annual Los Angeles Area Governors Award, which is given to an individual, company or an organization for outstanding achievement in the arts and sciences. This year’s Governors Award will be presented to Univision’s 34 A Su Lado (34 By Your Side), which runs within Univision’s KMEX Newscast and provides lifesaving and life changing information to the Latino community.

Los Angeles area nominations, juried award winners and the three station award categories for regularly scheduled news, have been judged by peer group panels convened in Boston, Chicago, Florida, New York and Seattle.

A complete list of today's nominations and juried award winners, as tabulated by the Television Academy’s accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP, is attached. The nominations and juried award winners have been listed alphabetically by program within the category.

Mitch Waldow is the Vice Chair of the Academy for the Los Angeles Area Peer Group. Suzan Jorgensen-Torgerson and Harry Kooperstein are the Los Angeles Area Governors.
