William Christopher was an American actor, best known for playing Father Francis Mulcahy on the television series M*A*S*H and Private Lester Hummel on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.

After beginning his career in the theater, Christopher began found regular work on television. His numerous credits included episodes of such series as The Andy Griffith Show, The Patty Duke Show, Hogan’s Heroes, That Girl, Columbo, Good Times and The Love Boat.

He played Father Mulcahy on the CBS comedy M*A*S*H for the entire run of the series, 1972 to 1983. He later reprised the role on the spinoff After M*A*S*H.

His movies included and The Shakiest Gun in the West, With Six You Get Eggroll and Hearts of the West.

Christopher died on December 31, 2016, in Pasadena, California. He was 84.
