David Storey was a British writer best known for his work as both the author and screenwriter of This Sporting Life, based on Storey’s rugby-playing experience.

The 1963 film adaptation earned Oscar nominations for Richard Harris and Rachel Roberts.

Storey also wrote the television movie Early Days, as well as the play The Contractor, which was adapted into a telefilm.

In 1976, he won the Booker Prize for the novel Saville.

Storey died March 27, 2017, in London, England. He was 83.
