David Stevens was an New Zealand-Australian writer and director.

As co-writer of the screenplay for the 1980 historical war drama, Breaker Morant, Stevens was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

He wrote the play The Sum of Us, which he adapted into a feature film starring Russell Crowe and Jack Thompson. The film won an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Screenplay.
