She was the director of the public media program of the National Endowment for the Arts, applauded for advocating programming such as Live From the Metropolitan, Dance in America, and Live From Lincoln Center.

Aaron then became senior vice-president for programming at Public Broadcasting Service. During her four and half years at PBS, Aaron sought ways to compete against the big three commercial networks that existed at the time.

She persuaded PBS affiliates to allow ‘common carriage’ four nights a week, leading to primetime evening hours and permitted PBS to create a national network.

Aaron died February 29, 2020, in Washington D.C.  She was 81.
