Peter E. Berger, Oscar-Nominated Picture Editor

In addition to his feature film work, Berger edited numerous made-for-television movies.

Peter E. Berger, Oscar nominated film and television editor, passed away on September 22, 2011, after a battle with leukemia. He was 67.

In addition to his Oscar-nominated work on Fatal Attraction, Berger cut films in the Star Trek franchise and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Among his other feature credits are Mommie Dearest, Less Than Zero, Coach Carter and Memories of Me.

Berger got his start as an assistant editor then became an editor on the made-for-TV movie Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park. He attended film school at UCLA before editing commercials at NBC.

Other television credits included several films, including The Face of Rage, Hobson’s Choice, Call to Glory, Burning Rage, Silence of the Heart, Scandal Sheet and Heart of a Champion: The Ray Mancini Story.

His final credit was on the TNT movie Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story in 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, two children and five grandchildren.
