L.A. TV Journo Sam Chu Lin Dies

Pioneering Asian Newsman was 67

Burbank, CA – Sam Chu Lin, one of the first Asian American network television reporters, died in Burbank on Sunday at age 67.

Chu Lin began his career in the 1960s, and worked in both radio and television. In the 1970s he was a fixture at CBS. He also spent time at KFWB-AM (980), KTLA-TV Channel 5 and KTTV, where he had been since 1995.

As a writer, he contributed articles on Asian American subjects to such publications as Asian Week, Rafu Shimpo and the San Francisco Examiner. He has a story in the current issue of Asian Week.

For his broadcasting achievements, he received awards from the Associated Press, United Press International, the Greater Los Angeles Press Club and the Radio and Television News Association.

Chu Lin, who took great pride in his heritage, also won a National Headliner Award for the television documentary Chu Lin is an Old American Name.

He is survived by his wife and their two sons.
