Social Buzz: Top TV Series, December 21 - 27, 2014

How are we ringing out 2014?

Tomorrow night, some will be making toasts at glamorous parties, while others will ring in 2015 in the comfort of their own homes while catching up on their favorite shows. For the last TV Tuesday of the year, we shine the social spotlight on Amazon’s new comedy series Mozart in the Jungle, finales of The Affair and Homeland, the recent HBO marathons of The Wire, and the well-loved Doctor Who. We wanted to know:

  • Was Mozart in the Jungle’s scandalous theme of sex, drugs and classical music enough to make social sing?

  • Did Alison and Noah’s tumultuous and electrifying relationship on The Affair continue to keep fans talking through the season finale?

  • Was the controversial Season 4 finale of Homeland enough to spark significant conversation on social?

  • Did HBO’s decision to reignite the airwaves with The Wire light up social chatter again?

  • Did BBC favorite Doctor Who have fans traveling through time, space, and the social networks?

The Social Totals

Doctor Who’s time-traveling spaceship had fans flying on both Facebook and Twitter with the majority of engagements on the social networks, most likely due to the show’s enormous cult following.

Active Audiences

As we have seen before, the sheer number of social engagements does not always guarantee that a show has the most active audience. When we put the shows on an even footing regardless of fan/follower size, The Affair sizzled on both social networks with 294.9 Facebook engagements per 1K fans and 156.3 Twitter engagements per 1K followers.
