A Fresh Path To Sitcom Pilots: The 4 to 9ers spotlights this typical workplace comedy. Typical, that is, except that the pilot was shot for a fraction of the usual cost and sidestepped networks and studios. The sitcom was developed with the restaurant chain Subway, where the action takes place. The six part series became Hulu’s top short-form comedy series.

Ultimately, the showrunners aim to move it to broadcast or cable. What are their chances? How will they structure the deal? Can this business model work for you?

Watch co-creators and sitcom veterans Jamie Widdoes and Tim O’Donnell and dealmaker Stuart McLean, CEO of Content & Co., in this eye-opening conversation with Variety’s Brian Lowry, originally webcast live from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the NoHo Arts District of Los Angeles.
