Shain Gandee, Co-Star of MTV Program Buckwild

Following the death of Gandee and two others, MTV decided not to continue with the series.

Shain Gandee, one of the stars of the MTV reality series Buckwild, died April 1, 2013, in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He was 21.

According to news reports, Gandee and two others were found in a truck. He was reported to have left a bar early in the morning of March 31 to go “four-wheeling,” an activity featured numerous times on Buckwild, which chronicled the lives of nine young living in rural West Virginia.

In a statement, MTV said, “We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident. We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly.”

Following Gandee's death, MTV announced that it would not produce another season of the show.
