George Randolph Hearst, Jr., Chairman of Hearst Media Empire

The grandson of Hearst Corp. founder

George Randolph Hearst, the grandson of media titan William Randolph Hearst, died June 25, 2012. He was 84.

Hearst was chairman of Hearst Corporation, the media empire established more than a century ago when his grandfather took control of the San Francisco Examiner.

In addition owning 29 television stations and has shares of several cable networks, the Hearst Corporation owns 15 daily newspapers, including the Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News and San Francisco Chronicle.

The company portfolio also includes magazines such as Esquire, Harper's Bazaar and Cosmopolitan.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, a daughter, a twin sister, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
