Frank Cady, Sam Drucker of Green Acres

In addition to Green Acres, Cady appeared in dozens of other popular series.

Frank Cady, an actor best known for the role of Sam Drucker, the general-store owner on the 1960s television comedy Green Acres, died June 8, 2012, at his home in Wilsonville, Oregon. He was 96.

According to news reports, no cause of death was released.

On Green Acres, which aired from 1965-1971, Cady’s character, Sam Drucker, was proprietor of a general store in Hooterville, the small town where the series was set. The show starred Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor as a city couple who quit Manhattan for a rural farm.

He played the same character in Petticoat Junction and The Beverly Hillbillies.

Cady, who was a fixture on television for several decades, also had roles in such series as The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, Rawhide, Hawaiian Eye, The Untouchables, Wagon Train, Hazel, Gunsmoke, Hawaii Five-O and more.

Prior to television, he had small parts in dozens of feature films, including The Asphalt Jungle, Ace in the Hole, Rear Window, The Bad Seed, The Tin Star and Hearts of the West.

He was born September 8, 1915, in Susanville, California, and studied drama at Stanford University. Following military service during World War II, he worked as a radio broadcaster before becoming a performer.

Cady and his wife, Shirley, moved to Oregon in the 1990s. She died in 2008.

Survivors include a daughter.
