Stanford Tischler

Stanford Tischler was a picture editor who won a Primetime Emmy for his work on the long-running CBS comedy M*A*S*H.

A native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Tischler got his start in the entertainment industry as an apprentice sound effects editor at RKO Studios, which at the time was presided over by Howard Hughes. While at RKO he worked on the 1951 feature Hard, Fast and Beautiful, directed by Ida Lupino. When Lupino and her husband Collier Young formed The Filmmakers production company, Tischler continued to work with them as a full-fledged editor.

He began working in television in 1955, with episodes of the dramatic anthology TV Reader's Digest. Over the next 30 years he edited dozens of TV series, both dramas and comedies. A partial list of his credits includes Tales of Wells Fargo, Leave It to Beaver, Bachelor Father, Highway Patrol, Sea Hunt, Peyton Place, Judd for the Defense, Nanny and the Professor and Rod Serling's Night Gallery.

Tischler is best known for his long association with M*A*S*H. He worked on all 11 seasons of the iconic program and directed more than 200 episodes; in addition to his Emmy win, he was nominated on nine other occasions. He also received four Eddie Awards from the American Cinema Editors guild for his work on the show.

In addition to his work as an editor, he was an associate producer on Judd for the Defense, M*A*S*H and After M*A*S*H.

Tischler died on January 15, 2014. He was 92.
