Martin Landau a film and television actor who won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for supporting role in the 1994 film Ed Wood. Landau played actor Bela Lugosi in the biopic about a director who tries to achieve his filmmaking dreams despite limited talent and financial support for his productions.
Landau also appeared in numerousn other films, including Francis Ford Coppola’s Tucker: The Man and His Dream and Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors, both of which earned the actor Oscar nominations. Additionally, he had roles in Cleopatra, Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, The Greatest Story Ever Told, Treasure Island, The Adventures of Pinocchio and The Majestic.
He also worked widely in television, including Emmy-nominated roles in Mission: Impossible, Without a Trace and Entourage, as well as parts on Maverick, Rawhide, Wagon Train, Bonanza, The Rifleman, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Get Smart and Columbo.

In addition, Landau was an acting teacher whose students the likes of Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston.
In the 1950s, he was close friends with James Dean and was, for a short time, the boyfriend of Marilyn Monroe.
After being accepted into Lee Strasberg’s Actors Studio, Landau got his start performing in New York theater, including roles in Goat Song, Stalag 17, First Love and Paddy Chayefsky’s Middle of the Night.
A documentary about his life, An Actor's Actor: The Life of Martin Landau, is currently in the works.
Landau died July 15, 2017, in Los Angeles. He was 89.
