Actor Tom Bosley, best known as Howard Cunningham, the genial patriarch on the 1970s comedy series Happy Days, died of heart failure on October 19, 2010, at a hospital near his Palm Springs home.

He was 83, and had been battling lung cancer.

Stephen J. Cannell, who overcame dyslexia to become one of the most prolific writer-producers in television, as well as a best-selling author, died September 30, 2010, at his home in Pasadena, California. He was 69.

According to news reports, Cannell died from complications related to melanoma.

A mix of new comedies and veteran dramas dominated the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night, while HBO monopolized the statuettes for movies and miniseries.

ABC’s Modern Family led all series programs with three Emmy wins, including outstanding comedy. It also won for supporting actor Eric Stonestreet and writers Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd for their pilot episode script.

Edward Kean, the chief writer for the classic children’s series Howdy Doody, died from complications related to emphysema on August 13, 2010, in West Bloomfield, Michigan. He was 85.

Claire Danes, Ted Danson, Emily Deschanel, Nathan Fillion, Lauren Graham, Mariska Hargitay, Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Christopher Meloni, Tom Selleck and Maura Tierney have been confirmed to present during Sunday’s live coast-to-coast telecast of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

Three-time Grammy® Award nominee Jewel will perform during the In Memoriam tribute at the 62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards. The telecast will be broadcast live coast-to-coast from NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 29 (5:00pm PT / 8pm ET), on NBC.

Jewel will perform an acoustic version of her song “The Shape of You,” which she wrote about the loss of her friend. The song is previously unreleased, but will be available on iTunes.

HBO topped the list of winners at the 2010 Creative Arts Emmy Awards with 17 golden statuettes, followed by ABC with 15.

Leading the recipients of multiple awards was HBO's World War II epic The Pacific, with seven Emmys. The 10-part miniseries led all Emmy nominees this year with 24.

The ceremony was held at NOKIA theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. The event will air as a two-hour special on Friday, August 27, at 1:00 p.m. (ET/PT), on E! Entertainment Television.
