Statement Regarding Use of Andy Griffith Theme During 64th Primetime Emmy Awards

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has released the following statement:

The use of the Andy Griffith Show theme in the Breaking Bad skit during the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast on September 23, 2012, was done in the spirit of a parody and was not in any way authorized by the owners and/or publishers of the composition.

65th Primetime Emmy Awards to Be Broadcast Sept. 22, 2013, on CBS

CBS’s broadcast of the 65th Primetime Emmy® Awards, which recognizes outstanding television programming, has been scheduled for Sunday, September 22, from NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.

Nominations for the 65th Primetime Emmy® Awards will be announced Thursday, July 18, from the Television Academy's Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.

Television Academy Elects New Peer Group Governors

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the names of the 29 newly elected Peer Group Governors who will serve a two-year term (2013 and 2014) on the Television Academy’s Board of Governors beginning January 1, 2013. Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum announced the governors-elect at the Television Academy’s November Board meeting, noting that they constitute a distinguished group of television professionals.

Sixth Annual Television Academy Honors Call for Entries

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that submissions are now being accepted for the Sixth Annual Television Academy Honors. Celebrating “Television with a Conscience,” this competition brings recognition to extraordinary television programming that inspires, informs, motivates and even has the power to change lives. The first entry deadline for programming that aired from 1/1/12 – 10/31/12 is December 14, 2012. The second entry deadline for programming that aired from 11/1/12 – 12/31/12 is January 14, 2013.

64th Primetime Emmy® Awards Unveiled



The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has unveiled the key art for the 64th Primetime Emmy® Awards.



This year’s artwork is a clean, bold illustration of the Emmy statuette in a “heroic” stance as seen from above with a single dramatic burst of light shining over her right shoulder. Emmy’s pose draws the eye upward through the electron ball, towards her name in a shimmering font that hangs in a royal blue nighttime sky.
