Television Academy Extends Multi-Year Contract for COO Alan Perris
Perris, who came to the Academy in 2006, has now been extended to 2013.
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that chief operating officer Alan Perris has renewed his contract through 2013. During this multi-year deal, Perris will continue to oversee the day-to-day activities of the Academy and its Foundation, as well as supervise the staff, including the executives in charge of all key departments.
“Television is my passion,” said Perris, “and I feel proud of what our staff, elected leadership and I have accomplished over the past six years to recognize and encourage excellence in the television industry. I am excited about working with our chairman, Bruce Rosenblum, the Board of Governors and the Academy staff over the next two years and focusing on many transformative initiatives for our organization.”
Prior to joining the Television Academy in April 2006, Perris worked in numerous executive jobs in the TV industry, both in Hollywood and in multiple cities across the country. He previously served as the senior vice president of first run programming at both Sony and Telepictures (Warner Bros.).
Other positions held by Perris in his over 35 years in the television industry include president at two station group production companies, Scripps-Howard and Post-Newsweek; senior vice president of programming of the Hallmark Channel and the president and general manager of local television stations in Jacksonville (WJXT) and Miami (WPLG, WTVJ).
Throughout his successful career, Perris is credited with developing shows like The Ricki Lake Show, Dragon Tales, Judge Mathis and Street Smarts.
Perris reports to Television Academy chairman Bruce Rosenblum and the Academy’s Executive Committee. On matters relating to the Academy Foundation, he continues to report to chairman of the board Jerry Petry and the Foundation Board of Directors.
