Art Balinger, Actor on Dragnet, Emergency! and More

Balinger was a familiar face on television in the ’60sand ’70s.

Art Balinger, an actor familiar to television viewers throughout the 1960s and ’70s through his work on such popiular series as Dragnet, died June 10, 2011, at Terwilliger Plaza Nursing Home in Portland, Oregon. He was 96.

Born in Los Angeles on February 1, 1915, Balinger developed an interest in radio at a young age and eventually became an on-air announcer.

He later moved into television and feature films.

Balinger appeared regularly on Dragnet and Emergency! He also had guest roles in such shows as 77 Sunset Strip, Ironside, Marcus Welby, M.D. and Ellery Queen.

In addition, he had small roles in such films as The Towering Inferno and The Swarm.

Survivors include a son, a daughter and a granddaughter.
