Me and My Emmy: Oscar Dominguez

The three-time Emmy winner lights up The Voice.

Primetime Emmy Tally: Three

How He Got the Gold: For outstanding lighting design/lighting direction for a variety series in 2013, 2015 and 2016 for NBC's The Voice.

Now for the Noms: Dominguez has been nominated ten times for his work as lighting designer for The Voice.

Rambling Road: "I was a high school dropout, and I got a job at a small studio facility to clean floors. A few months in, one of the electricians didn't show up, so they handed me a wrench and said, 'Get up on the ladder and hang this light.' That's where it all started. Dennis Weiler was my first mentor. He's a lifelong friend, and now he's the consigliere at Darkfire Lighting Design."

Point of Honor: "When you have people who are experts in the field, and those experts say, 'Hey, this is exceptional and we're going to recognize that,' it's huge. I hate sounding dorky, but I'm just blown away and honored by my Emmys."

Keeping Current: "The day that my work isn't a challenge, I will have to hand it off to someone else. The fulfillment is in self-educating and solving problems. And as time moves on, sensibilities of what people like changes, so you have to change with that."

Let It Shine: "I feel so grateful for this industry and this particular gig — the whole thing. The good and the bad, because without some of the bad, the good doesn't shine as bright."
