Me and My Emmy: Glenn Weiss

Glenn Weiss might have the best Emmy stories of all.

Primetime Emmy Tally: Eight

How He Got the Gold: All were for his work on the Tony Awards, six for producing and two for directing, including one in each category in 2012.

Now for the Noms: For the Tony Awards, he was nominated twice more as director and once more as a producer. He was further nommed as a director for NBC's The Apprentice and an ABC special marking President Obama's first inauguration. As a producer, he also received nods for two Super Bowl halftime shows, featuring Bruce Springsteen and Prince.

Awards-Worthy: "On the Tony Awards, producer Ricky Kirshner and I have to make something that's not just entertaining, but unexpected. We take chances. But we get to work with artists who know what it is to perform live eight times a week. They're not afraid to put it all out there."

Live Wired: "The most difficult part of directing a live broadcast is reacting to the unexpected. That's also what makes it fun. There are a lot of spontaneous decisions about what to show — or not to show — some of which are not part of your original plan."

Friendly Face-Off: "This past year I was nominated in the same Emmy category as Don Mischer, a man I greatly respect — the executive producer who hired me to direct the show. I was nominated for directing the Tonys, and Don was nominated for directing the Oscars. I knew that he and I would be in the same shot at the moment the winning name was called. When Ricky Gervais said my name... awkward! "

A Place for the Gold: "I leave that to my 11-year-old daughter, Taylor. She is constantly rearranging them on the shelves."
