Me and My Emmy: Blake Neely

"Music," says the composer, "is my DNA, and it guides me."

Primetime Emmy Tally: One

How He Got the Gold: As composer of the original main title theme music for HBO Max's The Flight Attendant in 2021.

Now for the Noms: Neely was also nominated in music composition categories in 2003, 2010 and 2012.

Studio Muse: "My Emmy statue is in my studio, where I spend perhaps 80 percent of my life. She inspires me to push my own boundaries. The statue is never something I view with complacency, as it was awarded to me by my peers."

Ear for a Career: "I have pursued music since age four. Even a formal rejection from music school couldn't derail that. There is a sort of constant radio station playing in my head, inspired by any range of emotions I might be experiencing. Music is my DNA, and it guides me."

Flight Plan: "The Flight Attendant is so special. The producers give me unbridled encouragement. Because of the specific percussion-only rules I set for myself, I am constantly pushed to hunt for new things to bang on. It helps to have such brilliant writing, acting and production to work with."

Fearless Leader: "This is my twentieth year of working with [producer] Greg Berlanti. He found me, and he believed in me. I am forever grateful and proud to know him and support his incredibly sophisticated artistic vision."
