Social Buzz: Top Fall TV Shows, November 23 - 29, 2014
What were we watching as we munched on those Thanksgiving leftovers?
Not much better than watching CIA agents recover U.S. secrets from a Russian submarine over some leftover turkey and mac and cheese — are we right?
A little Thanksgiving R&R gave fans lots of time to catch up on some of the most popular television comedies, dramas, and competitions, and we were right there to measure the social impact. Taking a deeper look at The McCarthys, Mom, State of Affairs, Grimm, and Dancing with the Stars, we wondered:
- Did the McCarthys' mischievous Thanksgiving plan keep its audience laughing online?
- Did Bonnie and Alvin's relationship on Mom sizzle on social as much as it did on screen?
- How did the CIA’s latest mission on State of Affairs contribute to fan chatter?
- To Grimm or not to Grimm — were social fans spooked by Nick and Juliette’s strife over whether or not to lead a supernatural life?
- Now in its 19th season, is the competition on Dancing with the Stars still enough to get online fans dancing on air?
This is what we found:
The Social Totals
First, we look at the sheer volume of likes, comments, shares, favorites and retweets. Likely due to its considerably larger audience, Dancing with the Stars got toes tingling and fingers clicking on Facebook and Twitter with an impressive 72.1% share of total engagement among the shows analyzed.
Active Audiences
Switching gears to how plugged in each audience is with the content posted by these programs, we see that State of Affairs put Facebook fans on a mission to mention and express themselves with 144.6 engagements per 1K fans. Dancing with the Stars wiped the floor with the competition on Twitter with 136.8 engagements per 1K followers, showing that their audience is not only large but also plugged into the show’s content.
