Television Academy Partners with Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls on the 67th Emmys Red Carpet

Join in to ask important questions on the Emmys red carpet.

Television Academy Social Media has formed a partnership with Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls to ask timely, thoughtful and inspiring questions of some of the world's most influential role models on this year’s Emmys red carpet.

For Emmys day on September 20, Smart Girls is launching the hashtag #SmartGirlsAsk. Twitter users can use the hashtag now to tweet questions they’d prefer to see asked of nominees and other red carpet guests attending the Emmy broadcast. As Smart Girls co-founder Meredith Walker said, “Our viewers and followers have expressed a desire for interesting questions that help us learn more about the people they see on their screens.”

During the red carpet, from 2:30-4:45pm PT, a curated list of questions will appear for answering via a phone running an app that Twitter built especially for the occasion.

Responses will be recorded on video through the app. Answer videos will be tweeted from @SmrtGrls, and @TelevisionAcad will be Periscoping some of the action!

According to their web site, Smart Girls is described as: “Founded by artist Amy Poehler and producer Meredith Walker, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls organization is dedicated to helping young people cultivate their authentic selves. We emphasize intelligence and imagination over ‘fitting in.’ We celebrate curiosity over gossip. We are a place where people can truly be their weird and wonderful selves. We are funny first, and informative second, hosting the party you want to attend.”

Supporters of the initiative have come from all over, from entertainment to sports to politics, as well as people from the Smart Girls community. The site includes stories from young people changing the world by being themselves and engaging in activities like computer coding, creating their own space vehicles, building trails, animal rights activism, and much more.
