With the Primetime Emmy Awards just five weeks away, "Emmy Season" is now in full swing. Last night members of the Performers Peer Group converged in Universal City to acknowledge this year's nominees.
The event, hosted by Governors Bob Bergen and Lily Tomlin and the Performers Peer Group Executive Committee, was a festive affair notable for the esprit de corps exhibited by the member attendees.
The lobby of the Sheraton Universal Hotel was crowded with surprised tourist families, agog as they spotted lots of their favorite television stars strolling through on their way to the event. Nominees from comedies Modern Family (Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ty Burrell), The Big Bang Theory (Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik), and dramas Newsroom (Jane Fonda) and Behind the Candelabra (Scott Bakula) were among those eliciting photo flashes from fans.
After a red-carpet welcome by dozens of members of various media outlets, the nominees were called to the stage by Bergen and Tomlin (both nominees themselves). Those greeted by enthusiastic applause included Jane Lynch (Glee), Tony Hale (Veep), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Laura Dern (Enlightened), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad),
Derek Hough (Dancing with the Stars), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story: Asylum), and Dan Bucatinsky (Scandal).
The Performers Emmy Celebration is the second of twenty-two events held by Peer Groups to recognize their nominees between now and the Primetime Emmy Awards. It's a very busy time for the Academy!
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards airs live coast-to-coast from the NOKIA Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 22 (8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT) on CBS.
