Television Academy and Living Spaces Team Up for Governors Ball Furniture Donation

The Television Academy today revealed details of a novel philanthropic initiative that will allow this year's Emmy Awards Governors Ball to have a lasting, positive ripple effect in the community. In partnership with home furniture and accessories design destination Living Spaces -- which is providing all the upholstered sofas and settees for all three Governors Ball events-- the Television Academy has a created a furniture donation program that benefits two leading, non-profit organizations focused on providing safe and affordable housing to low-income families and homeless individuals.

After the official Emmy Awards after party concludes, more than 80 custom sofas and other furnishings that were key elements of the Governors Ball "Brilliance in Motion" decor, will find new homes with the Hollywood Community Housing Corporation and Habitat for Humanity of Los Angeles.

"As part of the Television Academy's ongoing effort to give back to the community at large, we recognized that the donation of the furnishings we created with Living Spaces for the Governors Ball could become a particularly meaningful way to support organizations combatting the housing crisis in Los Angeles," said Television Academy President and COO Maury McIntyre.

The Hollywood Community Housing Corporation, which develops affordable rental housing for low-income families, formerly homeless individuals, seniors and those with special needs, will place the sofas amongst the 29 properties it operates across LA.

Habitat for Humanity builds and repairs homes in partnership with hardworking, low income families and individuals, providing them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for home ownership. Habitat for Humanity will spread the donated furnishing between its three Southland ReStore locations in Bellflower, Los Angeles and Torrance. The profits from these home-improvement thrift stores support the Habitat mission. ReStore shoppers can take home a bit of Emmys Governors Ball glam beginning in early October.

The Television Academy hosts three Emmy Awards celebrations: the Governors Ball on Sunday, September 22, immediately following the awards telecast, as well as back-to-back Creative Arts Governors Ball events on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15.

The 71st Emmy Awards will air LIVE coast-to-coast from the Microsoft Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 22 (8:00-11:00 PM ET /5:00-8:00 PM PT) on FOX. Don Mischer Productions and Done+Dusted will co-produce the telecast.
