Acclaimed Emmys.com Backstage Live Experience Returns for 64th Primetime Emmys

Audi sponsors an exclusive companion webcast streaming on Emmys.com, returning for a third year with coverage of the red carpet, backstage and Governors Ball. The second-screen experience is available on computers, tablets and smartphones.

The Television Academy announces the return of the “Emmys.com Backstage LIVE,” concurrent with the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, which airs live coast-to-coast on Sunday, September 23, at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on ABC. Sponsored for the first time by Audi, this unique second-screen companion viewing experience provides fans at home an exclusive look at everything that is happening behind the scenes of television’s biggest night. “Backstage LIVE” — http://www.emmys.com/backstage-live — is a free “all access pass” to the Emmys and will stream simultaneously to the telecast, LIVE on Emmys.com and ABC.com.

More than 15 cameras positioned in various areas backstage at the Primetime Emmys® telecast will provide viewers at home with the added experience of watching all the exciting moments that aren’t captured for the telecast. A new element this year also allows “Backstage Live” viewers to customize their experience by choosing from three different camera options.

The evening will begin with live Red Carpet coverage through the “Audi Arrivals” camera, fashion camera and a feed of the ABC pre-show. Once the Primetime Emmys telecast begins, cameras backstage will catch all of the action behind the scenes. This includes a host camera featuring Jimmy Kimmel and his team of writers, a producer’s camera for an inside look at Don Mischer as he produces the show, a control room camera, a green room camera to give fans an inside look at their favorite stars as they mingle backstage, a thank you cam where winners can continue their speeches, the trophy table camera to capture the winners picking up their trophies, and a press room camera to show the winners as they field questions from the media and discuss their Emmy-night victory.

For the first time, “Backstage Live” will provide never-before-seen access to the Governor’s Ball. This is the first celebratory stop for all Emmy winners, nominees and presenters once the show concludes. Two different video cameras will capture guests’ arrivals and two camera feeds inside the ball will showcase the elegant décor, as well as at the Emmy Winner’s Circle, where the stars will have an opportunity to have their Emmy statuettes officially personalized.

Thanks to the Television Academy’s partnership with PEOPLE magazine, the publication’s senior writer Julie Jordan joins the Backstage Live team as an on-camera host and commentator. She will provide viewers with all the valuable information they need to know about the nominees and greet the winners at the thank you cam as soon as they step off stage.

Renowned specials and documentary director Bob McKinnon returns as the director for “Backstage Live.” McKinnon is a seasoned veteran of award shows, having directed some of the biggest televised ceremonies including the Academy of Country Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and the Miss USA Pageant, as well as red carpet specials for the Academy Awards and NASCAR Hall of Fame.

”Backstage is where the show ultimately begins and ends!” promises Director Bob McKinnon.

The Television Academy has also brought on experienced variety writer and producer Melissa Wong. Wong has been involved with some of television’s most innovative live events, including the MTV Movie Awards, the People’s Choice Awards and NBC’s hit show The Voice, as well as red carpet specials for E! and Nickelodeon.

In addition to this unprecedented access, “Backstage Live brought to you by Audi” will feature various social media elements including twitter feeds integrated directly into the “Backstage Live” page on emmys.com, tracking trends in real time, interactive polls, trivia, and much more!

Additionally, the Emmys.com iPhone/iPad app has been updated to allow our viewers to “Pick Your Favorites” as you watch alongside the telecast. The app also provides up-to-the-minute tagging of the winners, photos, videos and the ability to watch the exclusive “Backstage Live” show.

Executive-produced by Don Mischer, the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The telecast will air live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 23, (7:00 PM EDT live / 4:00 PM PDT live) on ABC. If you plan to Tweet this story, please use the official Emmys hashtag #Emmys.
