ASC Awards Named TV & Film Camera Excellence Honored

Excellence in television and film camera work was honored at the 19th annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards, held February 13 at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland.

In the television realm, Nathan Hope triumphed in the episodic series category for the “Down the Drain” episode of CBS’ CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Among original movies for broadcast television, Jonathan Freeman won for NBC’s Homeland Security, and in the cable movie category, Robbie Greenberg was singled out for his work on the HBO production Iron Jawed Angels.

Winner in the feature film category was French cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel for Warner Independent Pictures’ A Very Long Engagement.

An ASC Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed on Fred J. Koenekamp, who won an Academy Award for The Towering Inferno, and was nominated for Patton and Islands in the Stream. The guild’s Board of Governors Award went to director-producer Gilbert Cates. The ASC International Achievement Award went to Italian cinematographer Tonino Delli Colli, a frequent collaborator of director Federico Fellini. The President's Award was given to Richard Moore, whose credits include Roger Corman's The Wild Angels, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean and Annie.

Veteran film critic Leonard Maltin was the first recipient of the ASC Award of Distinction, and the guild gave its student citation, the Charles B. Lang Jr. ASC Heritage Award, to P.J. Raval of the University of Texas at Austin.
