Wisteria Lane and its environs continued to rack up accolades as production designer Thomas Walsh of the ABC hit Desperate Housewives was singled out for best production design in a single-camera television series at the ninth-annual Art Directors Guild Awards ceremony, held February 12 at the Beverly Hilton hotel and hosted by Cheryl Hines of the HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm. Taking the prize for best production design in a multi-camera television series was Glenda Rovello of NBC’s Will & Grace.

Other television winners included Herbert Pinter, who took home the award for best production design in a television movie or miniseries for the HBO production And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself. Winner for best variety or awards show was Roy Christopher for the 76th Annual Academy Awards. Finally, Lauryn LeClere was honored for best production design in a commercial for “Ignore the Storm,” on behalf of the government agency FEMA.

In the feature film arena, Rick Heinrichs of Paramount’s Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events won for best production design in a period or fantasy film. In the contemporary film category, the prize went to Alex McDowell for DreamWorks’ The Terminal.

An honorary award for outstanding contribution to cinematic imagery went to Chinese auteur Zhang Yimou, director of Hero and House of Flying Daggers, and a lifetime achievement award was granted to production designer Bill Creber, who earned Academy Award nominations for The Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure and The Greatest Story Ever Told.

Additionally, the ceremony marked the debut of the guild’s Hall of Fame, which posthumously inducted seven production design legends: Wilfred Buckland, Richard Day, John DeCuir, Sr., Anton Grot, Boris Leven, William Menzies and Van Nest Polglase.
