William Windom, Prolific Primetime Emmy-Winning Actor

WIndom won his Emmy for the series My World and Welcome to It and appeared in dozens of other shows during his career.

William Windom, a prolific actor who received a Primetime Emmy for the series My World and Welcome To It, died August 16, 2012, at his home in Woodacre, California, north of San Francisco. He was 88.

According to news reports, the cause was congestive heart failure.

In My World and Welcome To It, which aired in 169-70, Windom starred as an unassuming suburban journalist and cartoonist inspired by James Thurber.

Years later, he had a regular role in the mystery series Murder, She Wrote, as a physician who is close friend of the lead character, played by Angela Lansbury.

A familiar face to regular film and television viewers for nearly 60 years, Windom had supporting roles in numerous movies and dozens of television series.

His lengthy TV resume included regular roles in such series such as The Farmer’s Daughter, Brothers and Sisters and Parenthood, as well as episodes of The Philo-Goodyear Television Playhouse, Robert Montgomery Theater, Ben Casey, Surfside 6, The Donna Reed Show, Twilight Zone, The Lucy Show, 77 Sunset Strip, The Wild, Wild West, The Fugitive, Star Trek, Bonanza, Mod Squad, Lancer, The Name of the Game, The Virginian, All in the Family, Alias Smith and Jones, The Waltons, Ironside, Columbo, Gunsmoke, Love, American Style, The FBI, Mission: Impossible, The Partridge Family, Hawaii Five-O, Mannix, McMillan and Wife, Kojak, Dallas, Barney Miller, One Day at a Time, The A Team, The Facts of Life, St. Elsewhere, Magnum P.I., Newhart, L.A. Law, Ally McBeal, JAG and many others.
