Gary Anderson, Primetime Emmy-Winning Picture Editor

The prolific Anderson worked on several top comedies, including Soap and Family Ties.

Gary Anderson, a picture editor who earned two Primetime Emmy Awards, one Daytime Emmy Award and one News & Documentary Emmy during a career that spanned four decades, died March 17, 2012. He was 69.

The cause was cancer.

Anderson, who began his television career in the early 1970s, worked extensively on comedy series, as well as made-for-television movies and variety specials.

His Primetime Emmys came in 1975, for the TV movie Judgment: The Court-Martial of Lt. William Calley, and 1977, for American Bandstand’s 25th Anniversary. He was also nominated for Primetime Emmys in 1978 and 1987.

He also won a Daytime Emmy in 1974, for the ABC Afternoon Playbreak Special titled Miss Kline, We Love You. And in 1973 he won a News & Documentary Emmy for Paramount Presents on ABC Wide World of Entertainment.

His long list of other credits included Soap, Stockard Channing in Just Friends, Benson, Family Ties, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Grace Under Fire, Partners, Then Came You, Something So Right, Still Standing, Yes, Dear and My Boys.

Anderson was also the author of a widely used textbook, Video Editing and Post Production: A Professional Guide.
