Emmy-Nominated Costume Designer Michael Dennison Dies

The veteran of both television and features was nominated this year for Georgia O’Keefe.

Michael Dennison, a costume designer who earned an Emmy nomination this year for his work on the Lifetime movie Georgia O’Keefe, died September 2, 2010, of a brain aneurysm in Pittsburgh. He was 58.

Dennison, who grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Beaumont, Texas, was working on the feature film One for the Money when he collapsed and died.

According to news reports, he suffered the aneurysm on the morning of August 31 and died two days later at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Following his death, Dennison's heart was donated to a patient in Michigan, both lungs were donated to North Carolina and his liver and kidneys were donated in the Pittsburgh area.

Over the course of his career, which spanned more than 30 years, he helped dress the stars of over 40 films and television shows, including Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct and Katherine Heigl in One for the Money. His other features included Starship Troopers, Almost Famous, What Women Want, World Trade Center, W and Eat Pray Love.

In addition to his Emmy nomination for Georgia O’Keeffe, Dennison received a nomination for a Costume Designers Guild Award.

Survivors include two brothers.
