Paul Newman Dies of Cancer

Iconic film star won a Primetime Emmy

®

in 2005


Paul Newman

Award-winning actor Paul Newman died of cancer Friday at his home in Westport, Connecticut.  He was 83.

Known for his trademark crystal blue eyes, broad philanthropic efforts, love of race cars and other businesses, the beloved thesp had reportedly been critically ill for months.

In addition to an Oscar® and two honorary Oscar® nods, among several nominations, Newman won the Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2005 for his role in Empire Falls. He received three additional Emmy nominations during his career as well.

The star of such films as Cool Hand Luke, The Color of Money and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was married to Oscar-winning actress Joanne Woodward for 50 years.

Newman is survived by wife Woodward, five daughters and a number of grandchildren. An accidental drug overdose claimed his only son, Scott, in 1978.
