FYC Partner Center: Campaign Guidelines

FYC Partner Center > Campaign Guidelines

Thank you for participating in the 2019 FYC Season. We appreciate your cooperation during your campaigning and offer these guidelines to provide direction when planning your campaigns and materials. When possible infractions are brought to our attention, they will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and the guidelines will be enforced.

If you have any questions about the following guidelines, or general FYC questions, please contact us at fyc@televisionacademy.com.

Guidelines for all For Your Consideration Promotional Materials

Permitted uses of the word Emmy:

  • Within the context of "FYC" - for example:
    - Emmy® 2019 FYC
    - Emmy® 2019 For Your Consideration
    - For Your Emmy® Consideration

  • Within the context of a reference to a previous year's Emmy win, such as
    - The 2018 Emmy® Winner for Outstanding Limited Series
    - Last Year's Emmy® Winner for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series

Always add the superscript ® immediately following the first use of the word Emmy.

Uses of the word Emmy that are not permitted:

  • DO NOT use the word Emmy in your URL or e-mail address.
  • DO NOT use the word Emmy in your screener packaging without the context noted in permitted uses.
  • DO NOT use the word Emmy in your social media, FYC Event Invitation, emmy magazine ads, or any other promotional materials without the context noted in permitted uses.

Other restrictions:

  • DO NOT use an image of the Emmy statuette on any FYC promotional materials.
  • DO NOT use blatant campaigning language in either social media or traditional media, i.e. No "VOTE FOR ME" ads are permitted in emmy magazine, in the trades or consumer pubs, on radio, or on any social media platforms.

Promotion Between Voting Rounds

The Academy does not offer or sanction For Your Consideration campaigning during voting or in between voting rounds – rather we work with nominees to approve use of our trademarks in Congratulatory ads in print, online and on air.

If you choose to host an event promoting your Emmy-eligible program during voting, or following Nominations Announcements, you may not promote it as an FYC Event, and there will be no access to invite the Television Academy membership to such events during this time period.

During the period between nominations-round voting and final-round voting, we allow congratulatory messages and ads, with these guidelines, as noted in our Copyright and Trademarks Policies document:

  • Emmy statuette imagery may appear with registered trademark in a congratulatory ad for current nominees, starting the day of Nominations Announcements, and continuing up until the actual Emmy Ceremony and/or Telecast.
  • Motion graphics of the Emmy statuette are available and may be placed in the lower third of the title sequence or promos for the nominated program. Please add: "Courtesy the Television Academy."
  • The Academy Marketing Department will provide appropriate assets and guidance for those preparing congratulatory ad/messaging to place across different media.
  • We will provide timely turnaround on advice/approval of placement for those images as well as copy and other assets.

NOTE: Emmy winners may display statuette(s) in advertising or promotional materials only for the year following their win. Thereafter, they may acknowledge their win in copy/text, ideally including the year and category.

Following each year's Emmy Awards ceremonies, nominees may reference that year's nomination in copy/text, citing the year and the category, but they cannot use Emmy statuette imagery.

Events

  • DO NOT invite Television Academy members to sign up for mailing lists, invitation distribution lists, or give their personal information in exchange for any gift, raffle, physical or digital item, event invitation, or information.
  • Member Code of Conduct applies at all events.

Events Not Sanctioned by the Television Academy

  • If you choose to host events promoting your Emmy-eligible programs, there will be no access to invite the Television Academy membership, unless you wish to turn it into a sanctioned event and that date is available on the FYC Event Calendar. In this case, regular FYC Event fees apply.
  • The Academy does not offer or sanction any FYC campaign events during voting or in between voting rounds. If you host a gathering promoting your Emmy-eligible program during either period of time, you may not promote it as an FYC Event.
  • You are not allowed to invite Television Academy members to a non-sanctioned event while they are in attendance at an official Television Academy-sanctioned FYC Event.
  • Member Code of Conduct applies at all events.
